I actually had the immense pleasure of seeing this legendary musical artist perform live (and free) at Madison Square Park yesterday. Her voice was like silk, sounding exactly as it did on her old recordings and her supporting band, a sole electric guitarist, provided the perfect sonic touch for the evening air. Suzanne Vega is the kind of talent that doesn’t exist in New York anymore: cool, observant, unpretentious, almost innocent, yet deep contemplation is lurking underneath. West Village trust fund babies with attitude problems beware, you’re not fooling anyone.
